David Candelaria

AUSTIN, Texas — Funeral Mass for David Candelaria, 89, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 14, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Burial will be in Candelaria Family Cemetery, Ice Caves. Prayer service and visitation will be 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, at Compassion Mortuary.

Candelaria died July 10, 2011, in Austin, Texas. He was born Jan. 27, 1922, in Concho, Ariz.
Candelaria was the owner/operator of the Ice Caves and Bandera Volcano since 1947. He developed the Ice Caves Trading Post and successful tourist attraction known as The Ice Caves. Upon his return from Navy Duty in World War II, he began developing the Ice Caves as a business. During these years he cleared trails, worked the land, and strongly advocated for tourism in New Mexico.

Survivors include his daughters, Janet O’Connor of Grants, Debbie Reinschmidt of Austin, Texas, Betsy Reinschmidt of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Candelaria was preceded in death by his wife, Cora (Reddy) Candelaria.

Pallbearers will be Jeff, Alford, Terry O’Connor, Stephen Reinschmidt, Rory Reinschmidt, Daniel Reinschmidt, Jacob Alford.

Marshall Chitwood

GALLUP — Memorial services for Marshall Owen Chitwood, 80, were 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, at St. Francis Church. The Rev. Larry officiated.

Chitwood died July 7, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Oct. 9, 1930.

Chitwood attended high school in Eminence, Mo. He joined the Air Force in 1949. He was in business for 50 years, had a full service station on Route 66, Marshalls Texaco.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret J. Macias; sons, Gary Chitwood of Gallup, Randy Chitwood of Pryor, Okla., Darrell Chitwood of Moore, Okla.; daughter, Debbie Ihnen of Farmington; brothers, Melvin Chitwood of Richland, Mo., Stanley Chitwood of Elington, Mo.; sister, Lillian Trinich of Fontana, Calif.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Chitwood was preceded in death by his parents, George Chitwood, Icey Mooney; sisters, Annabelle Buffington, Noble Chaston, Unice Sutherland, Meryl Dumay, Delvina Snow; brother, Paul Chitwood.

Pallbearers were Brian Ihnen, Eric Ihnen, Kevin Ihnen, Michael Chitwood, Jay Chitwood, Gary Chitwood.

The family received relatives and friends at Betty Guillen’s residence, 1008 W. Princeton, following services.

QUEMADO — Memorial services for Don Perry Cox, 80, will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, at Quemado High School. Burial will be on Cox Ranch Cemetry, Quemado.

Cox died Friday, July 8, 2011.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy Cox; daughter, Debra Cox; sons, Carl Cox, Mark Cox, Salty Cox; step-daughters, Dodie Rothlisberger, Michelle Jaramillo; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchilden.

Jean Descheenie

MANY FARMS — Services for Jean Descheenie, 87, will be 10 a.m., July 15, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Chinle Cemetery. Visitation will be at Many Farms Catholic Church. A rosary was recited 9:19 a.m., July 10, at Hospice of the Valley.

Descheenie died July 10, 2011. She was born May 16, 1924, in Rough Rock, into the Within His Cover People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Descheenie enjoyed walking, herding sheep, planting corn and watermelon, and rug weaving.
Survivors include her sons, Tony Descheenie, Tom Descheenie, Joe Descheenie, Johnny Descheenie; daughters, Clara Descheenie Begay, Anne Begay, Nellie Descheenie, Janet Begay; father, Whitehair’son Begay; brother, Whitehair Benally; sister, Zonnie Begodi; 28 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Descheenie was preceded in death by her husband, Deschene “Al’ Tsosie.

Pallbearers will be Darryle Begay, Darryleson Begay, Avis Thomas, Curtis Yazzie Ssr.
The family will receive relatives and friends in Many Farms, 3.5 miles north east of Conoco, following services.

TUBA CITY — Services for Rebecca Jane LeClere, 69, will 10 a.m., Thursday, July 14, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Tuba City. Rev. Menard will officiate. Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Tuba City. Visitation will be 9 a.m., July 14, at St. Jude Church. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., July 13, at St. Jude Church.

LcClere died July 8, 2011, in Tuba City. She was born in Salt Lake City, into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Bear People Clan.

LeClere was the Jr. High School valadictorian at St. Michaels Catholic School, and Tuba City high school salutatorian. She taught special education in Tuba City, and was a member of St. Vicent De Paul Society. Her hobbies included sewing, playing cards, church activities, word search, cooking and collecting bears.

Survivors include her sons, Hernal Dallas Jr., Joseph Dallas, Garrick Dallas, Romone Gonzales Sr.; daughters, Carrie Dallas, Celeste Dallas Gonzales, Andrea S. Dallas; parents, Mabel Jean LeClere, Joseph LeClere; sisters, Wanda McDonald, Lucille Wilcox; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

LeClere was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph LeClere, Mabel LeClere; daughter, Letitia J. Dallas; sisters, Helen Brown, Phyliss LeClere; John LeClere.

Pallbearers will be Ramone Gonzales Jr., David A. Gonzales, Nicholas L. Gonzales, Angelo LeClere, Fernando LeClere, Dominic LeClere, Orlando Baca.

Carolyn Neztsosie

NASCHITTI — Funeral services for Carolyn F. Neztsosie, 63, will be 10 a.m., July 13, at Sheep Springs Pentecostal Church. Evangelist Jones Benally will officiate. Burial will be in Naschitti Community Cemetery.

Neztsosie died July 6, 2011, in Albuquerque. She was born July 25, 1947, in Naschitti, into the Towering House People Clan for the Bed of Canyon People Clan.

Neztsosie attended school at Brigham City, Utah. She worked as a cook at Newcomb High School and moved to Albuquerque in 1998, and was employed at Little Light Daycare and on to house keeping at Albuquerque Indian Hospital. She loved to attend church services.

Survivors include her son, Collin Neztsosie; daughters, Lisa Jim, Melissa Neztsosie, Tammy Romero, Natasha Neztsosie; mother, Elsie Stephen; brother, Edward Foster; sisters, Evelyn Bigman, Angeline Henry; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Neztsosie was preceded in death by her husband, Myron Neztsosie; father, Carl Foster; brother, David Foster; sister, Sadie Foster.

Pallbearers will be Robert Jim, Simon Romero, Reynald Jim, Randy Foster, Phil Bigman, Willie Henry.

MILAN — Funeral Mass for Josesph C. Ortega, 35, were 10 a.m., today, July 12, at San Rafael Catholic Church. Burial was in Grants Memorial Park. A rosary was recited 7 p.m., Monday, July 11, at San Rafael Catholic Church.

Ortega died July 8, 2011, in Albuquerque. He was born Sept. 20, 1975, in Gallup.

Ortega was employed with Ortega Propane at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Ortega of Milan; children, Bryanna Ortega, Gabriella Ortega, Abel Ortega, all of Milan; parents, Abel Ortega Sr., Gloria Ortega of San Rafael; brother, Tony Ortega of San Rafael; sister, Teresa Lopez of Grants; grandparents, Ruby Ortega of Albuquerque, Francis Waldee of Tucson, Jessie Gomez of Bluewater.

Ortega was preceded in death by his brother, Abel Ortega Jr.; grandparents, J.M. Ortega, Gabriel Abeyta, Andres Lopez.

Martin died July 10, 2011, in China Springs. He was born July 2, 1956, in China Springs.
